Summary of Responsibilities:

Under the general direction of the Manager of Client Network Engineering, helps clients achieve optimum use of their computer networks by performing needs analysis, procurement support, installation, training and problem resolution for the local and wide area networks.  Responsible for configuration, operation, and administration of network server hardware, operating systems and communications links. Defines and implements solutions to integrate desktop and shared devices into local and wide area networks and/or other host-based networks.  Recommends appropriate computer tools to users including equipment software, documentation and training.

Essentional Functions:

1. Analyzes client user needs. Recommends appropriate network configurations to meet user needs and departmental standards.

2. Implements and maintains bridges, routers, gateways, remote access servers, domain servers, security firewalls, application and device servers and Internet or Intranet devices and connections.

3. Designs, configures, monitors and optimizes local and wide area networks and printers for optimal performance, maximum availability, minimal maintenance and reasonable costs.

4. Performs preventative and fault isolation maintenance on the local and wide area networks. Performs file maintenance on servers, domains, electronic post offices and client user files and/or databases.

5. Designs, configures, maintains and manages network security features for local and wide area networks. Configures, monitors and maintains anti-virus programs to insure network and systems integrity. Adds and deletes users as required on network servers and applications.

6. Performs customization and system administration for network management, task/project management, help desk, work group integration, documentation and educational software packages on local and wide area networks.

7. Works with Telecommunications Engineers to integrate voice, data and video applications on the local and wide area networks. Performs basic telephone maintenance as required.

8. Analyzes, recommends and evaluates new hardware, software, and communications products for network compatibility and applicability.

9. Develops, maintains and updates a library of technical documentation.

10. Performs advanced diagnostics and maintenance on desktop devices when additional expertise is required.

11. Assumes contractual management responsibilities, assists in requests for proposals, vendor selection and contract monitoring.

12. Works with cross-functional teams in the design and implementation of information technology.

13. Assists in the training of other Information Systems personnel to improve their technical skills.

14. Assists departmental management with development of systems standards, short and long term goals, project management and strategic directions.

15.  Keeps current on new developments and techniques in information technology.

16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Required: 

1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent technical or professional experience related to the design, installation and maintenance of local and wide area network required.

2. Minimum seven years related work experience with a minimum of seven years’ experience installing and maintaining local and wide area networks required.

3. Minimum of 5 years working with multiple client site networks and IT consulting industry. 

4. Must have demonstrated knowledge of local and wide area networks; computer software and hardware; knowledge of data communications, network planning and analysis; and vendor evaluations.

5. Technical certifications and/or technical training in personal computer hardware and/or software, servers, local and wide area networks and/or communications highly desirable.

6. Must possess strong analytical skills and effective interpersonal and communication skills to interact with a wide range of clients having different levels of computer expertise.

7. Ability to design workable solutions to problems in a timely manner.

8. Must be able to transport self to various facility sites as required.

9. Seeking a certified Microsoft engineer experienced and competent with complex configurations including but not limited to:

10. Microsoft Windows Servers

  • Server 2003/2008
  • Small Business
  • Exchange 2003/2007/2010
  • SQL     

11. Server Virtualization (VMware)

12. Storage (SAN)

13. Network Infrastructure (Cisco Certification a plus)

  • Routing
  • Firewall and Security Appliances
  • VPN
  • Managed Switches

14. Citrix Presentation Server (Citrix Certification desired (CCA/CCEA))

Qualifications / Requirements:

1. Broad knowledge of different operating systems and information system technologies

2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills

3. Be well organized and pay close attention to detail.

4. Stay abreast of the latest developments in technology. 

5. Strong interpersonal skills.

6. Ability to work with minimal supervision.

7. Good time management skills.

Additional Responsibilities: 

1. Meet physical demands of the position including the ability to lift and handle up to 45 pounds of materials, bend, stoop and stretch as required for placement and retrieval of materials or equipment on shelving.

2. Provide timely, high quality client service that meets or exceeds client expectations

3. Proactively seek new training to enhance technical skills and professional proficiency
