Smart Phones Are Little Computers… Treat Them That Way
by Jeff Beller, Principal – Skoda Minotti Technology Services

As smart phones have increased in sophistication, so has their use.  I personally find myself spending more time checking e-mail, browsing the web and using Internet-enabled apps on my iPhone than I do on my laptop.

Apple has worked very hard to secure their iOS operating system.  One of the main approaches they've used is that they've limited devices to only install apps from the iPhone AppStore.

For end users who want more, and want access to "unofficial" apps, the process of "jailbreaking" has emerged (allowing access to apps not officially approved by Apple).

HIPAA Gets Tough on Healthcare Organizations – Threatens Stiff Penalties for Lack of Email Security
by Brian Rosenfelt, Principal – Skoda Minotti Technology Services

The Federal Government has recently revamped the HIPAA (Heath Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), and made some very clear statements – if you are a health care organization and you don't rigorously protect your patients' personal health information, you could pay up to $1.5 million in fines.

As part of the Heath Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, passed last year as an addition to the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, all Protected Health Information (PHI) must be secured, and only transmitted electronically if it is unreadable by a third party.

Skoda Minotti Technology Services Group Becomes 3CX Certified

Skoda Minotti Technology Services Group has successfully fulfilled the requirements to become a 3CX Certified Partner. Earning this qualification validates the group's ability to offer the highest level of support for new and existing users of the 3CX phone system.

The 3CX phone system is an Internet Protocol (IP) Private branch exchange (PBX) system. An IP PBX is a business telephone system designed to deliver voice or video over a data network and interoperate with the normal Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

"Working with 3CX enables our Technology Services Group to offer a highly functioning IP PBX to businesses at a very affordable price," says Technology Services Group Principal, Brian Rosenfelt, CPA. "And, because it's web-based, it's incredibly scalable and easy to manage."
